As the Engineering Team Manager of the Data Platform team, you will play a pivotal role in driving our data and tech strategy forward, leading and mentoring a talented team of data platform engineers while working at the forefront of modern data practices. This is a high-impact role with the opportunity to influence and shape how data empowers decision-making and innovation across our organization.The Engineering Team Manager is responsible for leading and supporting a team of engineers to deliver high-quality technical outcomes while ensuring their professional growth and well-being. To be successful in this role, the manager must combine a strong hands-on engineering background with effective people management skills. This includes not only understanding and contributing to technical decision-making, but also managing direct reports through performance reviews, career development conversations, leave planning, workload balancing, and other day-to-day management responsibilities. The role requires the ability to bridge technical expertise with leadership, fostering both team effectiveness and individual success.Your RoleAs the Engineering Team Manager of the Data Platform team, you will:Manage a team of 8 high-end Data EngineersManage the team, mentor and guide these individuals and prioritise the backlog of ideas towards a scalable and efficient Self Serve Data PlatformEnsure your team is connected to the reality of the business and the users of the platform.Foster a collaborative and open culture where team members feel safe to speak their minds, reflect, and grow together.Take Ownership of our self-serve data platformAssume responsibility for capabilities encompassing Data Collection, Data Lake management, Data Orchestration, and Processing, in addition to facilitating the secure and streamlined distribution of data to the organization.Ensure a scalable and efficient platform, providing deep expertise in designing scalable, robust, and high-performing data solutions.Enforce Computational governance rules to ensure data is trustworthy and safeguarded.Drive Our Data StrategyAssist the Head of Data in formulating the Data Strategy for Marktplaats, ensuring that engineering and privacy considerations are integrated.Direct the organization-wide implementation of the data strategy, ensuring clarity of roles and responsibilities, mediating any conflicts, and providing relevant data on its execution.Serve as a key champion and enabler for data mesh principles, ensuring a future ready data architecture.Be a Leader in Data and AnalyticsJoin the Data and Analytics leadership team, working closely with peers in analytics, data science, and strategy to drive our vision forward.Build and maintain strong relationships with internal customers, ensuring that our success is measured by their success.What You BringTechnical ExcellenceDeep experience with modern data technologies, particularly in cloud environments (e.g., AWS, Databricks, or comparable solutions).Expertise in streaming technologies like Kafka and real-time analytics architectures.Proven ability to design and implement self-service platforms for internal customers.A track record of delivering scalable and successful data solutions in complex environments.Leadership and People SkillsMultiple years of experience in technical leadership roles, with a proven track record in managing and growing teams.A servant leadership mindset, with a focus on empowering others and developing future leaders.Flexibility, ambition, and resilience to thrive in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.Authenticity and a collaborative approach, with a focus on creating a positive team culture and impact.Data Management and Governance ExpertiseStrong understanding of data governance principles and best practices, including data quality, security, and compliance.Experience in establishing and enforcing data management policies and procedures.Proven ability to implement data lifecycle management strategies, ensuring data accuracy and availability.Knowledge of data cataloging and metadata management tools and processes.Interview process1st stage: Initial call with the Talent Acquicision partner - 15 minutes2nd stage: Interview with the hiring manager and a senior manager of the team - 45 minutes3rd stage: Interview with a recruitment panel - 45 to 60 minutes4th stage: Final Interview with a recruitment panel - 45 minutesBenefitsLife at Adevinta comes with its perks!
