We are seeking exceptional candidates for a postdoc in the Soft Matter group at the University of Amsterdam, under the supervision of Daniel Bonn (please do not contact him, if you have a question, the contact details are at the bottom of the page). This fully funded experimental project aims at deepening our understanding of physical mechanisms involved in, e.g., liquid sprays, emulsions and solid friction, with applications in pharmaceuticals, food industry, agriculture and semiconductors.This is what you will do
You will carry experimental work in the lab, from bibliographical research, setup and protocol design to data analysis. We ask you to become independent by taking initiatives and developing you own creative ideas. We also ask you to take an active role in group activities, which includes presenting your work at our weekly group meeting and ensuring that the lab equipment remains in good conditions.What we ask of you
- You have a recent PhD degree in physics or related field;
- You have excellent communication skills in oral and written English;
- You have good coding skills for data analysis;
- You have a creative, curious and driven nature;
- You have strong initiative and good time management skills.
We offer a temporary employment contract for 38 hours per week for a period of 12 months. Upon suitability for the position, as evidenced by a positive final evaluation, as well as available sufficient funding in the project temporary employment contract can be extended for 2 years. The preferred starting date is as soon as possible, therefore we will invite potential candidates for interviews on an ongoing base.The gross monthly salary, based on 38 hours per week and dependent on relevant experience, ranges between € 3,546 to € 5,538 (Scale 10).This does not include 8% holiday allowance and 8,3% year-end allowance.
