- Handle permit applications and negotiations with regulatory agencies for new projects or modifications (MOC) to ensure timely compliance with permit conditions for plant changes
- Forge strong ties with environmental regulatory leaders to shape policy and manage regulatory issues in support of company interests
- Collaborate with various departments and teams, including Business Development, Engineering, Legal, Environment Health & Safety (EHS), and Government Relations, to develop environmental project concepts and strategies for internal management and customer presentation
- Evaluate the project relative to EHS regulations and AP standards and identify compliance tasks, procedures, methods, and tools to comply with issued environmental permits and applicable regulations
- Provide EHS support to develop and coach the project teams in all aspects of the implementation of the management system
- Maintain and improve programs and work processes across all environmental media to comply with environmental regulations, permit requirements, internal policies and standards
- Monitor and interpret new and emerging EHS legislation, and industry codes of practice that impact existing and new businesses
- Provide credible and technically sound advice and calculations to support certification of hydrogen or other products as required by the business, working with the corporate sustainability team
- Train and hand off compliance responsibilities to other environmental and operations personnel
- Provide backup for the European Environmental advisor
- Engage with all levels of the company organisation (operators, supervisors, site managers, drivers, customer engineering, Business Area General Managers, Operational Managers and Line Managers
- Be the first point of Environmental support for project managers and the Hydrogen Energy Supplier business
- Must be fluent in English, both written and spoken
- Engineering background and Bachelor's degree are preferred or equivalent qualifications in Environmental Science, or a related field of study with demonstrated relevant technical experience
- An advanced degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Business, or Law is desirable
- 5+ years of experience supporting and/or leading the environmental permitting process for large industrial or pipeline projects
- Excellent presentation, one-on-one interpersonal, and negotiating skills. The ability to reduce complex technical and regulatory elements into language that non-environmental and non-technical people can understand
- 10-20% domestic and international travel, this could change subject to project activity
