The Opportunity:Avantor is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer (f/m/d) to join our team in Tilburg! In this role, you are responsible for developing Single-Use Hardware Systems for our biopharma customers. Your tasks encompass end-to-end engineering activities from the feasibility stage to testing & validation, ensuring that the final product will meet the customer’s performance criteria.Do you want to use your technical expertise to design devices that make an impact? Occasional customer and vendor site visits (1-2 times per month).What we are looking forEducation: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Bioengineering or similar) and at least 2-3 years of experience within product development.Experience:
  • Experience in AutoCAD (2D) and common 3D softwares (we use Inventor)
  • Hands-on approach with the ability to design, assess and troubleshoot hardware systems with a holistic understanding of mechanical, electronic, and software components
  • A good understanding of fluid handling mechanisms
  • Know-how on Finite Element Analysis would be an asset
  • Strong organizational skills with an affinity for prioritizing tasks and handling multiple projects at the same time
  • Track record of developing and maintaining professional relationships with customers, vendors, and suppliers
  • Good understanding of technical concepts and their application to the customer’s processes
  • Good understanding of Excel
  • Able to make well-grounded decisions and assessments using quality and engineering tools
  • Business fluency in English
How you will thrive and have an impact
  • Oversee Single Use Hardware System development projects from requirements gathering to final acceptance. Ensure that projects are completed on time and against customer performance criteria.
  • Conduct technical and financial feasibility studies by preparing costing sheets and detailed sourcing & planning schedules.
  • Prepare P&ID diagrams according to customer specifications and technical requirements.
  • Conduct detailed engineering design studies for custom systems and device platforms. This includes selecting subcomponents or subsystems, creating 3D designs for skids, frames, or custom geometries, and performing required calculations.
  • Improve products to create robust and repeatable designs.
  • Work closely with subcontractors by managing product development & manufacturing activities at vendor sites.
  • Develop approval blueprints.
  • Create protocols and conduct tests for components or subsystems as well as full-system Factory Acceptance Tests.
  • Carry out physical installations and programming of components, devices, sensors, and P&ID controllers for testing and troubleshooting.
  • Keep accurate records of all project related information and maintain engineering documents in good order.
  • Assist in resolving customer complaints promptly; notify management of problems and suggest corrective actions.
