
Design Lead - Rail & Stations

- Lead and manage design studies for metro, rail, and station infrastructure projects.
- Oversee project delivery from concept through execution, ensuring alignment with client expectations, regulations, and sustainability goals.
- Monitor project progress, budgets, and team performance.
- Coordinate across disciplines, working closely with architects, structural engineers, modelers, and other specialists.
- Engage with clients and stakeholders to ensure smooth communication and successful project outcomes.
- Leverage Arup's global expertise to bring innovative solutions to local and European rail and station projects.
- Provide technical guidance and strategic advice to clients on infrastructure solutions.
- Contribute to design development in areas such as track alignment, platform layouts, tunnels, bridges, and station facilities.
- Support and mentor junior designers and engineers.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, learning, and continuous improvement.

- 6 to 8+ years of experience in rail or metro infrastructure design.
- At least 4 years leading design studies or projects (Project Management experience preferred but not essential).
- Experience in metro, station, or railway infrastructure projects is highly desirable.
- Strong background in civil and structural engineering.
- Familiarity with station planning, track design, tunnels, bridges, accessibility, and safety in public transport infrastructure.
- Knowledge of digital tools and innovations such as BIM, Revit, Civil 3D, and OpenRail.
- Awareness of electrification, energy-efficient infrastructure, and digital trends in rail design.
- Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Proficiency in both English and Dutch (minimum B2 level).
- Ability to guide and support junior team members.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Rail Engineering, or a related discipline.
