Twelve vibrant research groups with strong roots in biophysics, biochemistry & molecular biology, cell biology, chemistry, computational biology, microbiology or genetics are organized in two focal areas: 'Molecular Mechanisms of Biological Processes' and 'Physiology and Systems Biology'.QualificationsThe ideal candidate must be highly motivated, hard-working, ambitious, creative, and really enthusiastic about RNA. Preferably, we seek candidates who are interested in conducting both wet-lab and in silico research. They will have the following qualifications.Required:
- MSc degree with specialization in molecular biology, biochemistry, bioinformatics/computational biology (or related disciplines).
- Experience with basic molecular biology research techniques (PCR, cloning, western blotting, etc.).
- Excellent command of the English language (both written and spoken).
- Ability to work independently and in a team.
- Prior experience working with RNA and related techniques (RT-PCR, in vitro transcription, northern blotting, etc.).
- Knowledge of UNIX/Linux computing environments and of a programming language (e.g., Perl, Python, Rust, C++, R, etc.).
- A salary of € 2,901 gross per month in the first year to a maximum of € 3,707 gross per month in the final year, based on a fulltime position (1.0 FTE)
- Excluding a 8% holiday allowance and a 8.3% end of the year bonus.
- A temporary position of one year with the option of renewal for another three years. Prolongation of the contract is contingent on sufficient progress in the first year to indicate that a successful completion of the PhD thesis within the contract period is to be expected. A PhD training programme is part of the agreement and the successful candidate will be enrolled in the Graduate School Science and Engineering of the Faculty.
