With the team you will further position Cordaid's humanitarian worldwide mandate within the organization and within our networks. This means working at the Dutch office, with Cordaid's Country offices and with Cordaid's worldwide operating Caritas and ACT Alliance networks.Cordaid is committed to principled humanitarian assistance, saving lives and supporting early recovery of those most in need in acute and protracted crises. Cordaid aims to deliver all humanitarian assistance in partnership with local actors. We believe in local capacity and leadership and are developing equitable partnership approaches and adapting our role towards facilitating national and local partners to take a leading role. All of our humanitarian programming aims to be of high quality and to meet international standards (CHS, Sphere etc.)What you doYou will answer to the International Director Business Development & Innovation and will collaborate with Cordaid’s Country Directors and managers of other departments to develop humanitarian strategies and portfolio. You will represent Cordaid’s humanitarian program in our humanitarian networks and alliances.Main responsibilities:
  • You will develop and lead the implementation of Cordaid´s humanitarian strategy in close coordination with Cordaid´s management, country offices and local partners.
  • You will lead and manage the humanitarian team at global office and contribute to build programme and project portfolios and represent the humanitarian team in Cordaid overall management.
  • You are responsible for acquiring institutional funding, with focus on developing new strategies for joint fundraising with national partners and networks.
  • You maintain strategic relationships with our Caritas and ACT networks, the DRA , SHO , START network, and you develop new strategic relations supportive to realizing Cordaid’s humanitarian mandate.
  • You support capacity development to country teams and partners and ensure that projects are implemented effectively and according to international humanitarian standards (SPHERE, CHS).
  • You will be flexible to travel and to give hands-on support in crisis situations.
  • You manage a small team of humanitarian Programme Managers, focussing on team performance, professional development and job satisfaction.
Who you are
  • You are a humanitarian leader and strategist.
  • You have a relevant master’s degree.
  • You have a minimum of 10 years’ experience of managing humanitarian assistance programs and teams.
  • You have worked a minimum of 5 years in humanitarian settings, which includes working in partnerships with national and local actors.
  • You are supportive to the vision of locally led humanitarian assistance and understand the advantages and challenges of working with local partners.
  • You have experience with institutional fundraising in the humanitarian sector.
  • Experience with Caritas and/or ACT networks is an advantage.
  • Sectoral experience in WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) or FSL (Food, Security and Livelihoods) is an advantage.
  • You have people management skills for leading a professional team.
  • You are result oriented and proactive and have a good sense of humour.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (and preferable in Dutch, Arabic and/or French).
  • You are based in the Netherlands and have flexibility to travel.
